---------------STEREOLOGY TOOLBOX DEMO VERSION 1.1 RELEASE NOTES--------------- INSTALLATION: To install the demonstration version of Stereology Toolbox, simply drag the icons of the program and the sample pict file from the floppy to your hard disk. The program will run VERY slowly from the floppy. Run the program by double clicking on the program icon. THE HELP MENU (UNDER THE APPLE MENU) GIVES DESCRIPTIONS OF THE PROGRAM USE AND EXPLANATIONS OF THE MENUS ITEMS. PLEASE READ IT! POSSIBLE PROBLEMS... Minimum system requirements are a Macintosh II, Centris, or Quadra with 2.5 Mb of free RAM, and a 640 x 480 (or larger), 8-bit color display. If you are unable to import a graphic, check to make sure it is in a PICT format. A sample PICT file of an alveolar septa has been provided. If the image quality of the PICT files you import look poor, check to see that your monitor is set to 256 colors (8-bit), and that the "mode" menu choice for color or greyscale is set appropriately. Color images are displayed using the System palette. So for best results, use your imaging software to dither your images to the System palette. If you get an error dialog telling you there is not enough memory to read graphics from the system clipboard, try increasing the memory allocation in the "info" dialog. The amount of memory needed depends on the size of the PICT files you try to import. Setting the allocation to 3,000 K should allow you to import two 640 by 480, 8-bit PICTS without any problems. If you are having trouble opening your saved data files in your spreadsheet program, be sure you are trying to open a file created with the "export..." command under the file menu. The files created with the normal "save" or "save as" can only be opened by Stereology Toolbox. The "export..." comand lets you create a customized text file for your particular spreadsheet program. This demonstration version gives you the ability to explore all the features of the program. but limits you to making counts on just the "demo" grid. In addition, only 4 intersection or profile counts can be made at a time. There is normally no limit. Also your exported files will only contain the first two lines of the datalog; normally all lines would be included.
